Fireborn Publishing Promises...

Fireborn Publishing promises to authors that we will...

1. …be true to the EPIC Code of Conduct for publishers.
2. …pay authors first…always. Owner pay comes out of the budget last. We will not spend money until authors are paid. Period. When the opportunity arises, we will reinvest money in growing the business.
3. …consider all suggestions brought to us seriously, at a monthly meeting between owner staff, whether the suggestions come from authors, editors, or readers.
4. …allow our staff to do what they do best, within their budgets, without micromanagement.
5. …departments support other departments as much as we can. Streamlining the job for everyone lightens the load.
6. …help our authors to promote/market their work to the best of our ability, teach new authors to promote/market themselves, and be available to answer all questions authors have.
7. …write and maintain an ebook for authors, giving answers to commonly-asked questions, and maintain active communication between authors and contacts in the individual departments.
8. ...Maintain PDF copies of royalty reports and book copies online, so authors can download their copies, in perpetuity.

Questions and Answers

Q: What genres will you be taking?
A: At the moment, everything from romantic, through all levels of romance, and erotica. We'll be taking all subgenres, MF, LGBT, and menage. In the future, as the site is fully coded, we may additionally offer straight-genre and YA books, but not until we are able to separate YA shoppers from erotic.

Q: When will you be taking submissions?
A: As soon as the crowd funding reaches the level where we have the site, cart, and the necessary money to pay the staff banked, we will start taking submissions. We are hoping to reach that level within 60 days.

Q: Doesn't the crowd funding make you a subsidy press?
A: Not at all! Authors are never required to pay us for anything, save them choosing to purchase print copies of their books, above and beyond their contracted copies. The crowd funding perks are aimed at readers...percentage off purchases, free books, priority printing, and so forth. Our models in this type of business style are (primarily) RSI, who have crowd funded to build not only the Star Citizen game but also to build their company, and other publishers, who offer member perks yearly. In fact, we may continue to offer packages after we open for business, though the unlimited packages are only for early supporting members. Of course, our goals are much more modest than those of RSI. We just want to get the baseline overhead investments taken care of and to fund the business through the intial 6-12 months of high risk start-up.

Q: When do the member perks start?
A: With the first week we release books for sale. In fact, early supporters get a bonus in that they can use thier discounts on pre-ordered titles, but the year marker for end of their discounts will be the anniversary of the first week of releases on the site.

Q: How do I become a donating member?
A: Visit our ecwid store. It will take PayPal payments and payments by credit card or debit card, using PayPal's cart system. Persons without a PayPal account can still pay with credit/debit cards via the cart, without starting a PP account.

Q: Back to the question of submissions... Do you have formatting requirements for submissions?
A: Glad you asked!
1" margins right and left; .5" margins top and bottom. Justified or centered print only, please.
Nothing in the header or footer. We will add that later.
11pt type, preferrably New Times Roman, but we will also accept Garamond or Bookman Old. We'll be changing it later, but we'd like to start with one of those.
1.5 spacing, with no additional space before or after the paragraphs.
.5" indents for paragraphs. Do not use Tabs feature. Please use your word processor's indent feature instead.
Use section break/next page and page breaks only. Please do not use hard returns to drop the beginning of a new chapter to the next page.
DOC format. If you submit in RTF or DOCX, we will change it to DOC, but do not submit in any other formats.
***** as hard break. No spaces between the astriks.
